THE PROBLEM

Hobbyist crafters and entry-level users often face the challenge of needing multiple specialized tools for tasks like drilling, grinding, and polishing, resulting in cluttered workspaces and high costs.

MULTIPLE TOOLS

Need to buy multiple tools to complete her projects

CLUTTERED WORKSPACE

Single function tools takes up space. Even adaptable tools like DREMEL requires extra table space for the extra add-ons

EXPENSIVE

Spend more money buying different tools.

INSPIRATION BOARD

EXPLORATION SKETCHES

The initial concept involved housing the motor inside the handle, similar to a DREMEL. However, after testing the components, it was determined that this approach was not feasible due to significant kickback when the motor started. The idea was abandoned, and the motor was instead housed separately in the main body

3 DESIGN DIRECTIONS

USER TESTING AND OBSERVATIONS

The concept was further developed based on user feedback and observations.

CMF

Typically, tools are crafted from metal and plastic, featuring an industrial design with primary colors like red, black, or yellow, which can feel intimidating to non-professionals and hobbyists. By opting for a softer color palette, paired with a matte finish and chrome accents, the product becomes more friendly and approachable

REFINED SKETCH

Color blocking was chosen for all the device's touchpoints to make them visually distinct, easily identifiable, and highly contrasting

PAINTED PROTOTYPE AND USER TESTING

Small notch added on the final design. The notch allows for easy removal of magnetic shield
